Data backup and recovery

I am currently imagining what would happen if I lost my phone, my laptop, or both. The cause could be an accident, theft, or a natural disaster. I have rough answers and plans in my head. I am asking myself these questions, so I can review and write down the answers.

  • What accounts can I still log into? What accounts would I lose access to?
  • What files could I still access? What files would I no longer be able to access?

Given the answers above,

  • What changes are needed for my data backup plan?
  • What changes are needed for my data recovery plan?
  • What changes can I make to “keep it short and simple”?
  • Who else need to be notified of these changes?

In order to answer these questions, I would have to simulate the process. Just like writing tests during software development, by simulating, I hope to uncover bugs in my plans.
