Spelling and Grammar Check Server

Spelling and grammar check is a basic feature of any writing software. At one time, I remember that Microsoft Word is the only one and the best that is available to me. For example, I would copy and paste the manuscript written in latex into Word, make the corrections, and repeat the changes back to my latex source. What a tedious process.

The next evolution is the cloud. A tool like Grammarly runs in the cloud and installs plugin to local writing software. There are even plugins for browsers. However, the downside to this is that Internet is required. There is also a concern about privacy.

Today, there is LanguageTool. You can run it locally for unlimited use and privacy. It has both official and community plugins for writing software. I run this with Erik van Leeuwen’s docker image. I can run this docker image locally or on a server in my homelab. The latter case allows sharing with all computers in the same home network.
